We're all about telling your unique story...and telling it well

Life is filled with moments worth remembering. From the instant we breathe our first breath, until we reach our final milestone.
Planned moments. Unexpected moments. Spontaneous moments.

Our heart yearns to partner with you to capture those moments in your life that matter.
We’re passionate about life; about love; about people in love.

my STORY

I'm Paul, the lead photographer at Imago Dei. Before entering photography full-time, I spent a career traveling around the world investing in faith-based humanitarian work. I met amazing people and introduced groups of ordinary folks to the extraordinary beauty and diversity that the world has to offer, creating lasting and transformative memories. After leading enough of these trips, it became clear to me that words on a page are often best accompanied by powerful, evocative images. So I began taking my camera along, and well, to make a long story short, I never looked back!

Today I spend all my waking hours and energy seeking out and telling the amazing stories of the fascinating human beings I meet every day, through the lens of my camera. I would love nothing more than to be invited to capture and preserve a snapshot of your unique story.

THIS IS US

our story

Hi. I'm Andrea. Paul and I met in LA in our mid-20s, and six months later this small-town girl from Wisconsin and this boy from the Congo got married. Call it love at first sight. Our crazy, unconventional union took us on many an adventure, with plot twists that we could not have imagined, nor would we imagine trading for anything else. All this while raising four amazingly gifted children—you may just find the occasional photo of our kids interspersed throughout the pages of this website.😊
See you soon!

INTIMATE, EDITORIAL WEDDING & FAMILY PHOTOGRAPHER

Thought you might want to know...

Let's jump straight in with a few things that you definitely should know about us:

  1. We're a cross-cultural team, and we thrive on different.
  2. We’re all about you – down-to-earth, chill, dedicated to help bring your vision to life...whatever that means to you!
  3. Chaos doesn't freak us out. We raised four kids, and we know a thing or two about the craziness of trying to take their pictures. We’ve built a great tolerance for chaos.
  4. Our approach to photography prioritizes the candid, natural moments while also offering direction and posing where/when needed.
  5. "Have bags packed, will travel." While we primarily serve the Triangle area of North Carolina (Durham/Chapel Hill/Raleigh), we’ll happily travel to wherever you need us.

The sweetest thing in all my life has been the longing to find the place where all the beauty came from.

The Vibe

The vibe we want to leave people with: Genuine. I’m not here to prioritize my portfolio or career.

I’m here for you. So, I’ll provide direction and suggestions but, when it's all said and done, I’m simply grateful that I get to be invited into your story. So what should you expect from me? A

good time, tons of laughs, and someone who's always going to keep it real with you.

Editing Style

At the end of the day, I would say that every session is different. But, in general, I like to tell people to expect photos that are warm. My editing favors warmer and vibrant tones because of the romantic and intimate vibe those tones imply. In addition to this, I typically include black & white images with your gallery. While there’s certainly room for additional creativity and stylistic experimentation, this is what I ask clients to expect as a starting point.

Posing Prompts

We're not a big fan of those stiff, “stand there and smile” poses. This isn’t 5th grade picture day, so trust me when I tell you that we come to every session with my arsenal of prompts. The goal is less on “the perfect pose” and more on engaging you [and your loved one(s)] in prompts and activities that naturally bring out the emotions we’re going for. We love the candid moments. The raw, the real, the authentic.

Legacy

Your memories are important. Your story should be documented as it is, uniquely yours, unscripted and genuine. Photographs are not only beautiful and artistic, they are a heritage. And your heritage should be real and authentic. We strongly believe that photography represents a legacy for the generations to come and that they should be printed out.

Your cherished memories deserve to be captured and displayed in stunning prints, not just locked away in pixels, lost or hidden on a cell phone?.

FAQ

Where are you based and do you travel?

I'm based in Durham, NC (USA) and yes I love to travel! If you want me to photograph your story, it will require a travel fee, depending on where it takes place. But no worries, I always try to find the cheapest way to come to you!

When will we get our photos?

That depends on the type of session you book. For most weddings, you will receive an online gallery link with all your photos within maximum 8 weeks (often less depending on the season I photograph your story). For all other sessions, gallery curation happens within 2-3 weeks. You can download all the photos from the gallery but also share them, choose your favorites, and also order prints!

What equipment do you use?

I shoot on two camera bodies: A Nikon D780 and a Nikon D750. In addition, I use off-camera flashes as well as natural light, and a variety of lenses, including 70-200mm, 24-70mm, 50mm, 105mm macro, and 20mm.
